Here is my review of "Michael Jackson's This is it." I realize I am a bias party writing a short simple review on the most brilliant mind to perform but I will do so anyway. This film/documentary was the epitome of 'artist in their element'. There was a moment when he finished, 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' that the lights dimmed and he smirked. I loved it. He was happiest when he was escaping the reality of being in the public eye and trying to live up to the iconic figure our society made him out to be. He also got to get away from the media which painted him in a negative light which, toward the end of his life, made him out to be a monster. There were some beautiful moments showing his humor and the freeing of his spirit. He also had a type of captivating sex appeal that we don't notice anymore. He wrote into our history that type of connection between music and performative dance that gives a quality to his work that is undeniably entrancing.
Mr. Ortega cracked me up as well. His vision along with Michael's was amazing and his love for MJ was apparent. After MJ's death and reading about Ortega's experience of putting together the footage for theaters it just showed to what depths Michael touched his life. Ortega wanted 'This Is It' to be a view into Michael's creative world and what he loved the most, the stage and music. He didn't want it to be about the man in the spot light and all the controversy surrounding him but better, just the man. Ortega did a great job and achieved just that. "It's all about the LOVE." Michael would say after giving direction to the crew and it truly did show.
I have seen the film twice now and would go back for thirds. His clothing and style were enough to pay attention to for the duration of the movie. Also, the technology going behind this event was truly extraordinary. It would of been the show of centuries and I am also sure it would've withstood the test of time just as his name will. Michael Jackson, "It's all for Love."
